Day Trips Introduction

The Club leads many one-day trips to the local mountains (basically the Sandias, the Santa Fe/Pecos Wilderness area, and the Jemez Mountains).  These are generally announced in the monthly newsletter.  Spur-of-the-moment trips (following a good snowfall!) may only be announced via the group email facility.

Day trips are usually planned for a particular ability level, usually beginner or intermediate.  The ability level, length of trip, meeting time and place, etc will be specified in the trip announcement.

Day trips are open to both members and prospective members.  Non-members please be sure to call the trip leader before the trip.

All Day Trip participants should read PDF Document icon Guidelines for Tour Participants and PDF Document icon Ski Tour Ratings.

All Day Trip participants must sign the PDF Document icon Trip Sign-in and Liability Waiver Form.

All Day Trip Leaders should read PDF Document icon Guidelines for Tour Leaders.

2011-2012 Season Day Trips

If snow conditions are doubtful, be sure to check this page for a cancellation notice!

Date: Saturday, February 25, 2012
Tour: Winsor Trail-Raven's Ridge-Santa Fe Ski Area
Leader: Susan Corban
Ski Rating: Class III   (see PDF Document icon Ski Tour Ratings)
Distance: 4.5 miles
Elevation Gain: 1700 feet
Description: From the Santa Fe Ski Area parking lot, we'll go up the Winsor Trail to the fence line at the top of the first ridge then turn uphill along the fence and progress along Raven's Ridge to the top of the ski area. Return will be down the ski slopes. This is a very steep ascent and absolutely positively requires good skins and strong legs. If you show up without skins-you will be turned away. Obviously the descent also requires good downhill skills. I plan to use beefy telemark boots, skis and bindings. By mileage this is a short trip, but it will be athletic, aerobic.
Anyone from Santa Fe who wants to join should contact leader in advance to arrange meeting.
Day Trips Chair Comment: Please contact Susan if you intend to go on this trip. Class III skiers---don't miss this one !
